The Script Task is the Swiss Army knife of Integration Services process orchestration. It’s rare to be able to construct a real-world ETL solution with only the tools provided with the built-in SSIS tasks. When no task in the toolbox can accomplish what you need, then the Script Task is a powerful alternative. Scripts have easy access to SSIS variables and connections, and have the full power of the .Net Framework behind them. But scripting in Integration Services isn’t all unicorns and rainbows.
